DEPARTMENT OF BOTANY : Achievements

☛ Students’ achievements :

• Botanica: In the Academic Year 2018-19, our following students participated and won the prizes in different competition organized on 23rd and 24th Jan. 2019 held at N. Wadia College, Pune

• First year Botany students’ Kinjal Shah and Divya Padghan bagged the gold medal by winning first place in the 'Flower-Arrangement' competition in 'Botanica' organized by Wadia College on 23rd January 2020.
• D. Y. Patil College, Department of Botany organized a workshop (Essential oils and aroma therapy) concluded on February 14th 2020, the first year students of Science (Botany) Ms. Kinjal Shah, Divya Padghan and other 4 students participated in it.
• Intercollegiate Online Competition was organised by the Dept. of Botany, BJ’s College of Arts, Science and Commerce Wagholi on the National Science Day 28th Feb. 202. Ms. Sakshi Dattatray Taware (F.Y.B.Sc.) got consolation prize in an event ‘Best out of waste using plant material’.
• In the Botanical online fest organised by Dept. of Botany HVDC, following first year Botany students won the awards.

• Anjum Ghatkari and Priyanka Pangare took admissions to T.Y.B.Sc. Botany at A. Garware College Pune during the Academic Year 2021-22. Aditya Bhange has completed T.Y.B.Sc. Botany at Modern College, Shivaji Nagar in the previous academic year.
• National level Quiz Competition on Environment and Nature 2023 was organized by Apollo Tyres Foundation (Sustainability and CSR) It was organized under Mangrove Conservation Project. A team constituted by Ms. Archita Managle and Roshani Khandare (S.Y.B.Sc.) Both teams (Desai College, Pune and Ruparel College Mumbai) headed to Grand Finale, and represented Maharashtra. Final round competition was at Kochi, Kerala on 10th Jan.2024. The other teams were from Karnataka, Tamilnadu, Telangana, Kerala, Guijrat and Andra Pradesh (02 teams each).

☛ Teachers’ achievements :

• In the academic year 2020-21, Mr. Shelar Pramod has delivered a lecture on Insectivorous plants /Carnivorous plants in Online Teacher Exchange Program held in between K.J. Somaiya College Mumbai and H.V. Desai College Pune.
• Mr. K.K. Bagdane has published Research Paper entitled- ‘An assessment of floristic composition of Purandar tehsil with special reference to threatened plant species and establishing the guidelines for conservation’ in an International Journal of Botany Studies, Vol. 6 (5) 2021 P 928-931.
• Mr. K.K. Bagdane gave Oral Presentation on ‘Threatened Plant Species of Purandar Tehsil’, Dist. Pune M.S., India in 31st Indian Association for Angiosperm Taxonomy (IAAT) Annual Conference and International Conference on ‘Documentation, Bioprospecting and Conservation of Biodiversity for Sustainable Diversity’ organized by D.Y. Patil Unitech Society’s Dr. D.Y. Patil Arts, Commerce and Science College Akurdi, Pune 411044 at Shendi, Bhandardara, Akole Dist. Ahmednagar on 5th to 7th April 2022.
• Mr. K.K.Bagdane also presented a Paper on ‘Documentation of Flowering Plant Diversity of Purandar tehsil, Dist. Pune, Maharashtra, India’ in Two days online International Conference on ‘Recent Trends in Basic and Applied Science’ (ICRTBAS-2022) held on 13th and 14th May 2022 organized by Rayat Shikshan Sanstha’s R.B. Narayanrao Borawake College, Srirampur, Dist.-Ahmednagar-413709 (MS) India.
• Mr. K.K. Bagdane has contributed as an author to write a Text book in Botany for T.Y.B.Sc. class entitled as Cryptogamic Botany (Algae and Fungi) published by Success Publication.
• Mr. K.K.Bagdane completed Ph.D. work on the topic: Floristic and Phyto-sociological studies of Purandar tehsil Dist. Pune, Maharashtra, India" on 4th May 2023
