Haribhai V. Desai College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Pune-02 is recognized as one of the premier academic institutions in Pune city. It stands tall in public esteem and also in the memories of its alumni, many of whom are now prominent figures in the government, business and industry, media and education sector. Students from all backgrounds have grown and excelled in the chosen areas of their interests; be it academics, sports or extra-curricular activities. Haribhai V. Desai College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Pune was established in 1984, by The Poona Gujarati Kelvani Mandal. It started as an organization to cater to the Gujarati minority and the traditional business sections of the society. The college is located in the traditional business area of Pune city with a high density of population around it. This promoted education and motivated especially girl students in vicinity to pursue higher education. Initially, the College was housed in RCM School and Junior College. The college is declared an autonomous college from year 2024-25. The College shifted into its new premises in the year 1987 and was a single faculty college until 1993.

The College has witnessed remarkable growth over the years and as of today it is one of the most distinguished graduate and postgraduate educational institutions in Pune City. The college has been long forgotten as a Gujarati minority college, and now has students from all sections of the society. Today, it is one of the most dynamic and premier institutions in Pune city. It boasts of an accomplished faculty of about eighty members and more than three thousand five hundred students. The College is also proud of its efficient and very supportive non-academic staff.

The college offers a number of courses in Science, Humanities, Commerce and Social Science, Computer Science Streams. The College also has a rich collection of books and journals in its library. College also have well-equipped laboratories. College conducts various co-curricular and extra-curricular activities to mention few NSS, Kala Mandal, Student Tours, Avishkar, Commerce Association, Science Association, etc.

The infrastructural amenities of the campus include underground parking for two wheelers, a large and very well-equipped library, a canteen, an auditorium for functions, an audio-visual seminar room, a computer room, etc. The College premises being situated in the heart of Pune city, it is thus well connected via all modes of public transport. The college campus is well-maintained. The College provides a liberal, lively and competitive environment enabling students to carve out a niche for themselves in their chosen areas. Besides the infrastructural facilities, the strength of the College lies in its congenial and enriching atmosphere, which plays a crucial role in maintaining the excellent record the College. Generations of students who have been groomed in this College have excelled in different walks of life, with the years spent in the college providing them a solid foundation on which they could craft their success. The College is committed in providing the necessary leadership and direction for the times ahead in every sphere of human enterprise and endeavor. Haribhai V. Desai College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Pune celebrated its Silver Jubilee in the year 2009.

The college has been reaccredited by NAAC with a ‘B++’ grade. The college teaching staff is functional on variety of university bodies such as BoS, Dean of Commerce Faculty, Member of Standing Committee, Syllabus Restructuring Committee, etc. The college also has co-opt members on BoS. The college also boasts of some research guides.
